A Beautiful Engagement Session At Lassen Volcanic National Park | James Tang Photography

I met Kristyl and Johann face to face after months of emailing back and forth. They traveled to their actual wedding venue in Lake Arrowhead, Pine Rose Cabins, to meet me there. As always, I did most of the talking since I’m always excited whenever I get a chance to get out of the house. Kristyl is more of a planner, and Johann is more spontaneous. Together they complement each other well.

It was Kristyl’s idea to have their engagement session in Northern California near Lassen Volcanic National Park. I flew into Sacramento to meet Kristyl and Johann and we made the 4 hours drive to the actual shooting location from there. I have never been to Burney Falls and it did not disappoint. It is beautiful! Mossbrae Falls is equally beautiful except for the long hike to get there. We planned to have the actual session on the next day but it was going to rain, so I decided to go ahead and start our session one day early. I’m glad I did because it was perfect and gave us a time cushion for more shots the day after if the weather cooperates.

I got to spend sometime with both Kristyl and Johann outside of work and get to know them a bit as a couple. They’re kind, friendly, generous, and Johann is very tentative to Kristyl even after 10 years of being together.

While this was not inside Lassen Volcanic National Park, it’s easier to reference the area since it’s more well known. The session was at Burney Falls, Lake Britton, and Mossbrae Falls. It’s hard to believe that these locations are in California since most would assume that the state is a desert.

Below are some of my favorite shots from Kristyl and Johann’s engagement session.
