Photographers – beware of your gear!

Yep, thieves are out there and they want your expensive camera gear.  That reminds me, I need to make sure my insurance is up to date. http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/video?id=6835395

EXIF eraser

EXIF stands for Exchange Image File Format.  For most photographers, it means the exposure information of each picture.  Some photographers prefer to keep this information as a reference for settings in different lighting.  For those that would like to remove the information, there’s a cool free tool out there that you can use, EXIF Eraser.

Your mileage may vary

I found a place online that you can use to check the total shutter count on a Nikon camera, MyShutterCount.com.  Alternatively, you can also use Opanda EXIF reader to do the samething locally on your computer.  I’m not 100% sure if Canon has the information in their EXIF data but let me know if you find […]

My other camera

It’s a 1960 Minolta A5 film camera in mint condition.  This one has the f2.8 lens and 1/500 shutter speed.  I bought it from Craiglist for $25 but have yet to try it out.  Here’s a picture I took of the camera while testing out my light setup for a project in a few weeks.

Playing with food

My Nikon 35-70mm has a macro mode at 35mm.  I decided to try it out while doing a project for a client.  Using a shoot through umbrella light and a YN560 flash, I was able to take a few close up shots.  If I do more of these in the future, I will most likely […]

New softbox

I recently bought a new 36×36″ softbox with a speed light adapter, and decided to test it out with my “model”.  I setup the softbox about 45 degrees above and to the side of my model, using just 1 speed light triggered by popup flash, for this test.  If it was an actual shoot, I […]

Dramatic lighting

This was shot at a salon.  We had permission from the owner, who’s also a hair stylist, to take over his salon after hours to do a shoot.  This was done with 1 strobe light in a soft box above the model, triggered by a pair of Pocketwizard plus II.

El Mirage dry lake bed

El Mirage dry lake bed is a popular place for movie filming, land speed testing, and many other outdoor activities.  You will need a permit for commercial filming and photography.  I took this picture using my 10-24mm lens and a polarizer filter, and a bit of fill in flash.
